OLTC Stands for Off-Line Tesla Coil. Standard TCs require a step-up transformer, to run the tank circuit at several
kV.
OLTCs run directly off of standard 240 VAC House Voltage. This eliminates the need for heavy, bulky transformers,
variacs
, and
line filters.
In fact most of the weight is from the Tesla coil itself!
